Instant Pot Boiled Eggs

I used to dread boiling eggs. Sometimes they'd be undercooked, other times impossible to peel. The Instant Pot completely changed the game for me. Since trying the 5-5-5 method a few years ago, it’s become my go-to. I’ve made these eggs dozens of times—for breakfast, salads, and meal prep. They come out perfect every single time—with shells that slide off like magic.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs

  • 1 cup water

  • Ice (for the ice bath)

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Instant Pot (any model)

  • Trivet or steamer basket (comes with most models)

  • Tongs (optional, for easy egg removal)

  • Large bowl (for the ice bath)

How to Make Instant Pot Boiled Eggs?

  1. Add water to the Instant Pot
Pour 1 cup of water into the pot.

  2. Place the eggs on the trivet or steamer basket
Arrange them in a single layer—avoid stacking.

  3. Seal and set
Close the lid, set the valve to Sealing.
Select Pressure Cook (or Manual) for 5 minutes on High Pressure.

  4. Natural release for 5 minutes
After cooking, let the pressure naturally release for 5 minutes.

  5. Quick release the rest
Then carefully move the valve to Venting to release any remaining pressure.

  6. Ice bath for 5 minutes
Immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water. Let them sit for 5 minutes.

  7. Peel and enjoy!
Tap gently, roll, and peel. The shells come right off!

How to Store Leftover?

  • Fridge: Store peeled or unpeeled boiled eggs in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

  • Meal Prep: I like to keep a batch ready for salads, sandwiches, or a quick snack with a sprinkle of salt.

FAQs

Can I cook more than 6 eggs at once?

Absolutely! I’ve done up to a dozen using the same 5-5-5 method. Just make sure they’re in a single layer.

What if I don’t have a trivet?

You can use a metal steamer basket or even roll up some foil into rings to keep the eggs above the water.

Do the eggs crack while cooking?

Very rarely. Keeping them in a single layer and using fresh eggs helps prevent cracking. This is one of the simplest yet most life-changing recipes I’ve adopted. If you’re new to the Instant Pot or just want easy-peel eggs every time, try this out. You’ll never go back to stovetop boiling!
